Meiringskloof is situated in the Eastern Free State, 1.7 km from Fouriesburg.
It is located in a beautiful kloof surrounded by sandstone cliffs with open caves, thick indigenous bush and abundant bird life. Accommodation is provided in self-catering sandstone chalets and caravan / camping facilities.
Meiringskloof offers excellent hikes in beautiful surroundings and a swimming pool to cool down in. Horse riding and 4x4 trails are available in the area.
The Lesotho border is only 11km away- people often stay at Meiringskloof and take a day trip to AfriSki to ski and snowboard in winter; or travel to the Katse dam high up in the mountains of Lesotho for the day.
Meiringskloof works well for family reunions or company weekends away as each family / group can stay in their own separate chalet and use the Lapa with or without kitchen for communal meals.
To preserve the natural surroundings only a limited number of chalets and caravan/ camping sites have been developed. It is advisable to book well in advance , especially for long weekends and during school holidays.
Due to the high cliffs on both sides, cell phone reception in Meiringskloof is very limited – most chalets do not have reception. Vodacom and Cell C can be picked up in the parking area adjacent to the office and certain other places (depending on your phone); the Lesotho econet tower interferes with the MTN signal.
Remember the free Wifi at the office – or take a break from technology for a day or two.
